HARIPUR: Another condemned prisoner is all set to be hanged in Punjab’s Haripur central jail as authorities received his death warrants on Thursday reported.
Convicted murderer Shoaib Sarwar is likely to be executed in next three days.
Sarwar is first civilian who is being hanged for a non-terror related offence since 2008. His death warrant was issued this week and received by the jail administration today.
Rights organisations on Thursday called on the government to halt his execution, saying the move would violate its own official policy.
Pakistan lifted a six-year moratorium on the death penalty last month in the case of convicted terrorists following a Dec 16 Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar which killed 150 people.
Since then, 20 people have been hanged, with nearly 500 facing the noose.
There are nearly 8,000 death row convicts in Pakistan.
