ANF foils attempts of drug smuggling worth Rs 1.24 billion

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 725 Kg Drugs which comprised 78 Kg Heroin, 600 Kg Opium, 46 Kg Hashish and 880 Gram Methamphetamine, while arrested fourteen persons including a lady involved in drug trafficking and impounded five vehicles.

ANF conducted 12 operations at Rawalpindi, Attock, Lahore, Faisalabad, Nowshehra, D.I Khan, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Karachi and Chaghi, seized 725 Kg Drugs which comprised 78 Kg Heroin, 600 Kg Opium, 46 Kg Hashish and 880 Gram Methamphetamine, while held 14 persons including a lady involved in drug trafficking and impounded 5 vehicles.

The value of seized drugs amounted to Rs 1.24 Billion in International Market.

According to details, ANF Peshawar while carrying out routine road check, intercepted a Bedford Truck near Shorkot Stop, DI Khan and seized 74 Kg Heroin tactfully concealed in its secret cavities. Two persons on board including a driver of the vehicle have been taken into custody.

ANF Peshawar also seized an unattended Toyota Pick-up which was parked at GT Road, Pabbi, Peshawar and recovered 26.4 Kg Hashish concealed in the vehicle. Furthermore, ANF Peshawar also arrested 3 persons including a lady, who were travelling in a passenger van near main Motorway Toll Plaza and recovered 1 Kg Hashish from their personal possession. In another operation, ANF Peshawar intercepted a Suzuki Mehran car at Ring Road and seized 6 Kg Hashish concealed under the seats of the car. Two drug carriers identified as Sher Muhammad Khan and Rafi Ullah were also arrested during the operation.

ANF Quetta on an intelligence based operation at District Chaghi, seized 600 Kg Opium. According to details, ANF Team on pursuance of information established a Road Check near Siah Regh, Tehsil Dalbadin, District Chaghi. During course of checking, a Land Cruiser was signaled to stop, however, the persons on board opened fire & managed to escape. The abandoned vehicle was taken into custody, whose search led to seizure of 600 Kg Opium concealed in the vehicle.

ANF Rawalpindi Road Check Team stopped a Suzuki Pick-up at GT Road, Attock and recovered 2.2 Kg Hashish from personal possession of the person. ANF Rawalpindi also held another drug carrier along with 2 Kg Hashish at GT Road, Rawalpindi.

ANF Lahore Airport Team detained a passenger named Kashif Ali Mughal at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and recovered 1.28 Kg Heroin, which was concealed in Jewelry Display Frames. The accused intended to proceed for Colombo by Sri Lankan Airline Flight No. MJ-2186.

Furthermore, ANF Lahore Road Check Team during routine checking near main Motorway Toll Plaza, Faisalabad recovered 6 Kg Hashish from possession of 2 passengers who were travelling in passenger bus, both persons have been arrested. Yet in another operation, ANF Lahore on pursuance of an information seized 3.2 Kg Heroin from Indian bound goods train at Wahga. Heroin was concealed in the pressure pipes of the train.

ANF Karachi Airport Team detained a passenger at Jinnah International Airport Karachi and recovered 880 Gram Methamphetamine concealed in his trolley bag. The accused was scheduled to travel for Jeddah by Emirates Airline EK-601.  ANF Karachi also apprehended a local drug peddler from Hyderabad and recovered 2.5 Kg Hashish from his personal possession.

All cases have been registered at respective ANF Police Stations and further investigations are under way.   NNI
