The Al-Khidmat Foundation of Jamat-e-Islami was recognised by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for its relief and rescue efforts while he was in flood-devastated Pakistan on a solidarity visit. Guterres had arrived in Pakistan a day earlier for a two-day visit to show support for the flood victims there.
He also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his visit to talk about the situation after unusual rains caused floods that caused misery in the nation.Muhammad Abdus Shakoor, President of the Alkhidmat Foundation, briefed the UN secretary-general about the ongoing relief and rescue efforts in the flood-affected areas during their meeting.
The president of the Alkhidmat Foundation reportedly informed the head of the UN that more than 33 million people have been affected by floods, and they are currently dealing with the worst displacement concerns.
At the time, Guterres praised the Alkhidmat Foundation for its outstanding work and praised the organisation for its efforts in flood-affected communities.The UN chief expressed his joy at learning that Pakistanis are a brave people that can handle any situation, whether it be social, political, or natural.
