AJK elections

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged victorious with a thumping win in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections and party is in a position to form the government after grabbing at least 31 seats in the house of 41 members.

Ruling People’s Party and Muslim Conference have won three seats each, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also won two seats in the territory, according to the unofficial election results.

It was being expected that as per bad norm in the politics of the country defeated parties would beat the drums of rigging in elections, but sanity prevailed and Chief of PTI Imran Khan has congratulated PML-N for its victory in the elections. PTI still has couple of years to impress people from its performance in the KPK province and prepare for the major battle that is general elections in 2018. Perhaps party leadership needs to change its stance by putting side politics of blames and concentrate on the welfare of the people in the province they are governing. PPP also need to mend its way to attract people, just anti-Indian rhetoric and highlighting Nawaz-Modi friendship failed to do the job. In order to shrug off the perception of just a provincial party, PPP needs to indulge in issue-based politics and attract voters before next general elections.

Winning party PML-N has taken the verdict of the people of AJK, but PML-N victory was on the cards as it happens traditionally that party in power in Islamabad tends to win in AJK or in G-B elections. Ruling party has two years time to fulfill the promises made to the masses during general elections of 2013. Eliminating energy crisis and unemployment should be the main priority, if they failed to curb load-shedding, it would come to haunt them in next general elections.

We hope PML-N after winning AJK elections would bring promised development in the region.
