LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan on Friday asked the government to conduct forensic audit of Prime Minister’s (PM) wealth in the backdrop of Panama leaks.
While talking to the media in the Lahore High Court (LHC), Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) leader said that a new law should be enacted for the Terms of References (TOR) in the matter.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif evaded taxes in 1994 and 1996, he alleged. Ahsan demanded PM Nawaz to disclose the truth, that Panama leaks hold against him, before the Parliament.
The Opposition Leader in the Senate demanded investigations of Sharif family’s assets and wealth stashed abroad.
On the other hand, opposition parties are developing terms with one another ever since Panama Papers published documents leaked from a law firm earlier this month.
At least 140 world leaders were alleged of stashing their wealth abroad and being indulged in illegal dealings through offshore companies. PM Nawaz was not directly named in the leaks but his family members were.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman has warned of besieging PM’s residence in Raiwind’s Jati Umra if he does not come clean about the alleged lies he fed the nation for decades about his assets.
PTI’s vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has held different meetings with Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Khursheed Shah in the past weeks to discuss the matter and formulate strategy against the government.
Awami Mulsim League (AML) Sheikh Rasheed met PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and exchanged views over the issue earlier this week.
Prime Minister fled the country for alleged treatment of his medical condition in London earlier this month amid ruckus over the leaks. Sections had claimed that the Prime Minister visited Britain to ‘right the wrong.’ NNI
