ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (INP): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has decided to take some immediate and long-term steps for the quality management in the university’s overall working to promote educational standard in the country.
Such steps would lead to the qualitative improvement in overall educational pursuits, enabling the students to effectively take part in the country’s socio-economic development in their practical life, said vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, while addressing a seminar held here Thursday. It was arranged the AIOU’s Rawalpindi regional campus.
Chief Consultant of World in Counselling Mushraq Hussain Syed made a presentation on ‘Total Quality Management in AIOU’. He highlighted some basics and fundamental requirements of quality management. He appreciated the vision and initiatives of the vice chancellor for enhancing University’s academic status and its standing in the educational field.
Besides, introducing new academic programs, necessary departments will also be opened soon to generate management and skill-based activities. “We wish the University plays its effective role to construct knowledge through meaningful, relevant, and internationally competitive research in different fields.”
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said, all possible efforts will be made to promote the culture of research and development by creating an enabling environment in the university where faculty and students get engaged in research.
He noted that there has been a sizeable quantitative expansion in universities since 1947 but still there are repeated calls for the improvement in quality of education.
The broad vision of the university will be to improve the lives of people at individual and societal level. “We are committed to provide affordable educational opportunities to the students to help them become productive, responsible, and thinking human-beings,” he added.
The VC referred to some important and urgent initiatives, being taken to realize stipulated mission of the university. The AIOU will arrange regular annual research conferences and publication of research journals in each faculty, besides providing forums to disseminate research. Faculty would be given financial support to present in national and international conferences and special reward for publishing in impact factor research journal.
Similarly awards would be instituted for books published by renowned international publishers. The findings of research could be shared with the concerned communities and policy makers to improve the socioeconomic conditions of the country and world, he VC added.
Earlier, Director University’s Rawalpindi Region Dr. Iqbal Shah and Prof. Afshan Huma highlighted the details and objectives of skill-based series of activities.
