Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) celebrated an evening with renowned literary figure Amjad Islam Amjad Friday paying tributes to him for his visionary writing which he projected through poems, drams and newspapers’ columns.
While appreciating his literary work, speakers on the occasion said that Amjad is a true successor of great poets like Allama Mohammad Iqbal. Vice chancellor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while presiding over the function said Amjad is known for his unique style of poetry which deals with the life of a common man. Through his writings, he motivated the children and youth to follow human values and practice the same in day-to-day life.
The function was the part of ‘Book and author’ series being arranged by the University on regular basis.
Amjad Islam Amjad in his observations on the occasion highlighted the significance of Urdu literary work in Pakistan and underlined the need of translating the same in other languages to develop good image of the country. This is how, he added talents and worth of Pakistani artists could be introduced world over.
Through his creative writing and ideas, he said he motivated the youth to develop their skill and talents for the development of a progressive and healthy society. He also talked about various features of his writings and his personal experiences as columnist and drama writer.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui further said that efforts are being made to develop the AIOU as a vibrant Centre of literary and cultural activities. Writers and poets are being provided a platform to present their work for the benefit of the new generation. Highlighting his priority areas, he said special focus is being laid on development of research-based education.
He lauded the work of Amjad Islam Amjad and said the nation is proud of such poets who spent their whole life for promoting positive and constructive attitude among the youth. He particularly mentioned his poems which were written for children’s interest and their positive brought-up.
During the question-answer session, the poet also spoke about the various features of modern poetry and its impact on the society.
