ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says it is against any sort of proxy war and desires good neighborly relations. We want to resolve all disputes through talks.
Responding to a question about Afghan government and Afghan Taliban talks hosted by Pakistan, Foreign office spokesperson termed them as a breakthrough saying this is the first time that the two sides have direct talks. He said Pakistan played the role of facilitator in the talks. The atmosphere of talks was cordial and both the sides agreed to meet again after Ramadan. This, he said, also reflects the interest of both sides to continue the process. The two sides have expressed interest of building peace in Afghanistan. He said important countries are supporting this peace process which is in everbody’s interest especially for the peoples of the region.
To a question, the spokesperson said Afghanistan has appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating talks with Tehreek-e- Taliban Afghanistan. He said Pakistan is committed to supporting an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process.We remain in touch with the Afghan authorities and we can see strong desire on their part to promote the peace process.
To a question about Daish, the spokesperson said our security agencies are vigilant and advised to take necessary action. He said Pakistan does not allow its nationals to participate in conflicts outside of the country.
To a question about the arrest of defense analyst Zaid Hamid in Saudi Arabia, Qazi Khalilullah said our embassy has requested the Saudi authorities for consular access to the arrested analyst and provide information about the charges levelled against him and confirm the reports of his sentence.
