According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office the recent attack in Quetta has been traced to neighboring Afghanistan. This is not the first time that a major terrorist attack in Pakistan has been traced to the neighboring countries; in fact the majority of the attacks in the country trace their roots to Afghanistan.
Talking to a private television channel recently, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor also pointed out that Pakistan was a terror free country before the United States launched its war against terror targeting Afghanistan. The military spokesperson also pointed out that Pakistan has restored peace on its soil and now Afghanistan will also have to do the same.
Recently, the Ambassadors and Heads of Mission of resident Missions in Islamabad were also briefed by the Foreign Minister, Foreign Secretary, Chief of General Staff (CGS), Director General Military Operations (DG MO) and Director General Military Intelligence (DG MI) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Pakistan’s achievements and challenges in counter-terrorism efforts, and combating violent extremism; unprecedented escalations of Indian ceasefire violations at the LoC and the Working Boundary; and the gross Indian atrocities in IoK. The briefing had been arranged to inform the diplomatic corps about the massive counter-terrorism efforts that Pakistan had undertaken in the last 16 years, more so the developments in the last 4 years. They were also briefed about the terrorist threat emanating from the safe havens and sanctuaries in Afghanistan, which is resulting in loss of human lives and damage to infrastructure in Pakistan. Details were also provided on how Indian belligerence and unhelpful posturing is distracting Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts and how an active RAW/NDS nexus is verifiably working to undermine Pakistan’s internal stability. The CGS also informed the participants that the recent Quetta blast was traced back to Afghanistan.
In the wake of US accusations against Pakistan, Pakistan’s efforts to highlight its successful counter terror operations is a step in the right direction. There is no doubt that Pakistan has laid immense sacrificed in the war against terror and due to the efforts and sacrifices of the Armed Forces the country has almost purged itself of terrorist activities. The involvement of Indian in terror activities in Pakistan was also exposed by the arrest of Convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav who admitted involvement in espionage, terrorist and subversive activities in Pakistan. The effort by Pakistan to highlight its sacrifices and the need for peace and stability in Afghanistan (for which Pakistan is making its utmost efforts) will help cement Pakistan’s stance at the international level.
