KARACHI: An accountability court on Monday extended remand of former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain, who is in the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for his alleged corruption, for more 10 days.
Dr Asim, who is currently Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman, was presented by NAB officials before the accountability court.
Meanwhile, the Jinnah Hospital issued a report of Dr Hussain s MRI test that was conducted earlier on his complaint about pain in the back, declaring him physically fit.
The NAB is reportedly in the process to file another reference against Dr Asim for allegedly collaborating with the then finance minister in the 2008 stock marker crash.
Investors had reportedly lost billions of rupees as shares value had fallen drastically.
The Pakistan People’s Party leader is also being tired by Anti-Terrorism Court in a case registered under Anti-Terrorist Act at North Nazimabad Police Station in November 2015 on the complaint of Rangers. He has been accused of providing shelter to target killers and terrorists in his hospital, Dr Ziauddin Hospital.
Sindh Police, though, have given him a clean chit on terrorism charges, but the Rangers are determined to try Dr Asim on the charges of assisting criminals and killers.
It may be added that Dr Asim was first arrested by the Rangers, which after investigation lodged the case at North Nazimabad Police Station and then handed him over to the NAB to probe alleged corruption done by him.
