Says security being provided to Polio teams

KARACHI (INP): Sindh Minister for Food and Health, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that during current polio campaign almost 28 lac children will be administered polio drops in different districts of Sindh including 97 union councils of Karachi. In Karachi only 818,000 children will be given polio drops and 2400 polio teams are working in Karachi only.

Talking to media persons in assembly building after Sindh Assembly session on Monday, Jam Mehtab said that polio campaign was also in full swing in Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore,  Larkana while in Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Nausheroferoze, Sukkur and Qamber it was being done partially.

He said that in 444 UCs of the province almost 2,761,082 children would be administered polio drops and the target would be achieved.

“Polio teams are being given fool proof security in Surjani. There are five police mobiles with 50 personnel along with 45 polio teams in Mominabad 119 polio teams are accompanied by 9 police mobiles with 119 personnel”, he added.

The Sindh health minister said that in Orangi Town 60 polio teams have been escorted by 7 police mobiles and 65 personnel. In Saeedabad 129 police personnel were working with 65 polio teams. While in Madina Colony 42 polio teams were with 50 personnel and in Baldia Town 50 policemen were with 40 polio teams. He said that in Ittehad Town and SITE areas 153 polio teams had been given the security of 287 policemen with 10 police mobiles.

To a question, Jam Mehtab said that Health Department Sindh was making its utmost effort to make the province polio-free and he also appreciated the role of media in creating awareness regarding the effectiveness of polio campaign.
