ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the construction of the first Najma Hameed Sports Complex in the history of Punjab named after former senator and senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Najma Hameed (late).
It has been learned from informed sources that the sports stadium will be built on seventy kanals of land of Railway Ground in the name of Najma Hameed, the most important leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who rendered valuable services to the party and played a significant role in strengthening the PML-N in Rawalpindi. This is the first state-of-the-art Najma Hameed Sports Complex named after a woman. The PC-1 of this new scheme will be included in the budget of the next financial year and work on this project will start in the month of August. The sports complex will have a cricket ground, hockey ground, football ground, indoor gymnasium, swimming pool, snooker rooms, and arenas for other indoor games.
The construction of this project will provide opportunities to attract the youth of Dhok Matkyal, Chohtar Chakki, Westridge, Ratta, Amral, Dhok Ratta, Siam, Hazara Colony towards healthy activities.
Member of Provincial Assembly Malik Iftikhar says that Quaid Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the glory of Punjab Maryam Nawaz have always given importance to Rawalpindi, and projects worth billions of rupees are a shining example of this.
Talking to Express, he said that Rawalpindi is the fortress of Pakistan Muslim League, our mission is to serve the people, this project is a gift in gratitude for the services of Najma Hameed, we will equip Rawalpindi Cantt with modern facilities of Pakistan.
Pakistan Muslim League leader Malik Nasir Awan said that this mega project will help attract youth towards healthy activities. Ward number three member of the Cantonment Board Malik Tahir Ayub said that the number of grounds in our area is negligible. Shakeel Sheikh said that Nawaz Sharif is the benefactor of Pakistan. Former member of the Provincial Assembly Tahseen Fawad said that Najmia Hameed was our pride.
