Islamabad: The announcement of the visit of the IMF mission to Pakistan was issued, in which the discussions on economic issues with the Pakistani authorities were described as positive.
The IMF said that Pakistan needs to strictly implement the targets of the current loan program.
Mission Chief Nathan Porter has said that strict implementation of the loan program targets can improve the standard of living of the people, the government is determined to increase tax revenue from non-tax paying sectors.
According to the declaration, discussions were held with the federal government as well as provincial governments, private sector representatives were also discussed, during which discussions were also held on increasing the role of provinces in social security and development, reforms in the energy sector in Pakistan. A special discussion was held on the challenges.
The mission chief said that the recent talks were held for the IMF’s six-monthly review, the talks reviewed the government’s performance on economic reforms, policies and development.
While describing the negotiations with Pakistan as positive, the IMF emphasized the need to increase the share of the private sector in many sectors and to limit the share of the government of Pakistan in some sectors.
The IMF said that talks with Pakistan were held from November 12 to 15 under the leadership of Mission Chief Nathan Porter, in which the attitude of the Pakistani authorities was very encouraging and supportive. The IMF Executive Board will be briefed on the talks with Pakistan authorities and the delegation will visit Pakistan again in the first quarter of 2025.
