LAHORE: After a dismal home Test season that could limit Babar Azam’s place in the team across formats, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering conducting an in-depth review of the team management.

After the conclusion of the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League in March, the PCB executive committee, led by Najam Sethi, is allegedly unhappy with the existing setup and planning a thorough review.

There are concerns about Babar Azam’s management of the red-ball format after Pakistan lost three out of five Test matches and did not win any.

Aware of the development, the PCB sources confided to the channel that due to the team’s recent underwhelming performance, changes are anticipated in team management and leadership.

Babar Azam may lose his all-format captaincy if the PCB decides to choose individual captains for each of the three formats.

According to the sources, the decision to choose Shan Masood vice-captain for the ODI series against New Zealand in place of Shadab Khan was made as part of a long-term plan. Other captains for the red- and white-ball formats may also be considered.

They said that Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shan Masood are being considered as candidates for the Test captaincy.

After the PSL, the current management of the PCB will decide whether to keep his captain in any particular format.

The board is considering hiring a foreign coach for the green shirts, therefore the head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and the bowling coach Shaun Tait may not be retained until their contracts expire in February.

Due to Mickey Arthur’s prior obligations with Derbyshire county, attempts to bring him in were unsuccessful.
