UNITED NATIONS: The veteran journalist and broadcaster Arshad Sharif was shot and died in Kenya on Monday, and the UN demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.

On the evening of Sunday, October 23, Sharif was fatally shot by Kenyan police in what the authorities described as a “mistaken identity” shooting on the outskirts of Nairobi, the country’s capital.

According to the police report, his car continued to move forward through a roadblock after police started shooting. In Pakistan, calls for an investigation and public outrage over Sharif’s death’s circumstances have been heard.

Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, responded to a question during the regularly scheduled midday briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York by saying, “I noticed the awful reports about the tragedy.

He hoped that the Arshad Sharif death’s circumstances will be looked into by Kenyan authorities. The US State Department had encouraged Kenyan authorities to fully look into Sharif’s killing the day before.Ned Price, the spokeswoman for the State Department, demanded an investigation.

“We are in favour of the Kenyan government conducting a comprehensive investigation into his death. We certainly recommend a thorough inquiry, but it’s not totally apparent that we are aware of all the circumstances that led to his death at this time, the spokeswoman added.
