ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the head of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), confirmed his candidacy for all nine seats in the Sept. 25 elections just minutes after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the timetable for by-elections on nine seats of the National Assembly.
The nine seats are among the 11 that have become vacant as a result of the National Assembly speaker accepting the resignations of PTI MNAs and their de-notification last week.
The PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry later stated at a press conference that Mr. Khan will run in all nine constituencies after the news first broke on the party’s official Twitter account.
He had defeated PML-N candidates Khawaja Saad Rafique of Lahore NA-131, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of Islamabad NA-53, the late Syed Ali Raza Abidi of Lahore NA-243, Ubaidullah Khan of Mianwali NA-95, and Akram Khan Durrani of Bannu NA-35.
