Prohibited funding verdict: PDM to file disqualification reference against Imran

ISLAMABAD: Following the ruling by the Election Commission of Pakistan in the case involving the party’s prohibited funding, PDM leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday demanded that “Imran Khan should be made an example of” while announcing that the coalition’s decision to refer the PTI chairman under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution.

The electoral watchdog determined on Tuesday that PTI had “wilfully” and “knowingly” accepted illegal cash from many foreign contributors. The commission also stated in its judgement that it was “forced to hold that Imran Khan failed to execute his duty as prescribed by the Pakistani legislation.”

After a session of the multi-party coalition at the PM House to decide the course of action against Imran Khan, the PDM leader stated at a news conference that “a report should be filed against Imran Khan because he is no longer Sadiq and Amin (truthful and honest).”
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, also attended the meeting.

Additionally, he urged that the PTI chairman be added to the Export Control List (ECL), pleading with “all institutions to defend” Pakistan.
The chairman of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazl, urged officials to imprison the former premier and PTI office holders.

He said that “all the political parties have decided to take action” against Imran Khan and the party as they are now “confirmed criminals,” saying that “whether it is Imran Khan or Dr. Arif Alvi, [they] should resign immediately from the party because they had proven to be criminals.”
