Tamim Iqbal Sunday, a batter for Bangladesh, made the decision to end his nearly 15-year T20 International career.

The 33-year-old made the announcement via a Facebook post immediately after leading the ODI team to a 3-0 series victory against the West Indies.

Tamim posted on Facebook, “Consider myself retired from T20 international as of today.”The formal declaration put an end to the week-long rumours over Tamim’s choice to resume playing the format after taking a break of six months in January of this year.

The great player had already announced in January that he would be taking a six-month vacation from T20 cricket.
On January 27, 2022, he had stated, “Tests and ODIs would receive all of my attentionWithin the next six months, I won’t be considering T20Is.

“I’m hoping the players do so well that they won’t need me in T20Is for the squad. However, if the team or cricket board absolutely needs me and I am prepared, I might consider it,The top player faced Zimbabwe in his final T20I in March 2020 and scored 41 points on 33 balls. As of Saturday, he had led Bangladesh to five straight ODI series victories, including the one against the West Indies.

From 2007 to 2018, Tamim was a consistent member of the Bangladesh T20I team, appearing in 75 of a possible 84 matches.

With 1,701 runs at an average of 24.65, he finished as the third-highest run scorer for Bangladesh and is still the only batsman to have a century.

Tamim will probably participate in domestic T20 tournaments despite the official statement. He participated in each season of the BPL and now holds the record for most runs scored in the league.
