MANDI BAHAUDDIN /BANNU, Dec 18 (INP): At least nine people were killed and 17 others sustained injuries in two different road accidents in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.
According to police sources, an accident took place near Saida area in Qadirabad when a passenger bus collided with a truck, killing 4 passengers on the spot and injuring 5 others.
The deceased and injured were shifted to the district’s municipal hospital in Mandi Bahauddin. Motorway police said the accident happened due to fog.
In another road accident at least five persons were killed and 12 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a speedy oil tanker on Indus highway in Bannu due to dense fog .The bodies and injured were shifted to hospital.
Meanwhile, Dense fog enveloped parts of Punjab on Thursday, forcing authorities to cancel flights at the Lahore airport in the morning. The flights resumed after 11 am.
Official sources said that two international flights to the Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport were diverted to Karachi and Islamabad due to fog.
Low visibility has also disrupted vehicular traffic in the province as motorway was closed at different points.
Dense fog descended on Lahore and other cities of Punjab including Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, DG Khan, Sahiwal, Okara and Sheikhupura.
The Motorway police have appealed the drivers to use GT Road for travel from Lahore to Pindi Bhattian during night and morning. The Motorway police have also urged the drivers to drive slowly and switch on fog lights.
