US drone strike kills 10 in NWA
PESHAWAR: A US drone strike targeting militants on Wednesday killed 10 people in Alwara Mandi area of Dattakhel in North Waziristan Agency near the border with Afghanistan.
The drone fired four missiles on a house and vehicle killing 10 people. The drones were hovering over the site of the attack for a long time which created further panic in the area. Some reports citing intelligence sources suggested that Uzbek nationals were among the dead.
Drone strikes were halted for six months at the request of the Pakistani government. However, the US resumed strikes during the Zarb-e-Azb operation. Wednesday’s drone strike came after the interval of 47 days.
Meanwhile,Jet fighters struck suspected militant hideouts in various parts of the Kokikhel area in Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency early on Wednesday morning. Local and intelligence sources said that four militant hideouts were destroyed while eight terrorists were killed and several others injured in the strikes, according to administration sources.
Several compounds were also destroyed during the bombings. The sources further added that the killed terrorist belonged to banned outfit of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
The ISPR is yet to issue details of the recent military activity and the information could not be independently verified as the access of journalists is limited in the region.
The strikes are part of the ongoing military operation named Zarb-i-Azb, initiated on June 15 against anti-state militants hiding in the North Waziristan Agency.DNA/INP
