PESHAWAR (NNI): At least eight people were killed and seven others injured when a passenger van collided with a car in the town of Karak, 200 lm (125 miles) southwest of Islamabad.
As per details, the ill-fated passenger van was travelling from Peshawar to Bannu District when a car coming from opposite direction hit it on GT Road near Banda Dawood Shah area. As a result of the collision, both vehicles plunged into ravine, killing eight people on the spot. Rescue teams arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies and injured people to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Banda Dawood Shah.
Initial report suggests that the accident took place due to overnight rain due to which driver of the car lost control. Pakistan has an appalling record of fatal traffic accidents due to poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving. The recovery equipment available to Pakistani emergency services is often basic. When crashes happen some distance from major towns, rescue efforts can take time and the injured have less chance of survival. NNI
