- Commuters express joy but complain of few problems
More than eight lac passengers have traveled in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus since its inauguration. The name of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus project has also been changed to Metro Pakistan.
Huge crowds could be observed on Metro bus stations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, there are 24 stations from Rawalpindi to Islamabad. Families and children travel on the Metro bus in large numbers on weekends. Instead of buying tickets people prefer the use of Metro cards which are available for the cost of Rupees 130 each. Talking to the scribe a passenger Muhammad Imran said that he travels from Rawalpindi to Islamabad on a daily basis. He said that the Metro is a gift for the people from the ruling Government and added that before he had to wait for the transport in searing heat but Metro has changed it and you can travel between the twin cities in less than 45 minutes in air-conditioned buses.
Another passenger Zahid Khan said that the service has made life easy for the passengers but the time of Metro bus must be extended till midnight. Ayesha, a student of Bahria University in Islamabad said that the traveling on the metro bus is a real joy, she added that women faced many difficulties in the public transport plying on various routes in the twin cities and the behavior of passengers and the drivers was very rude with women. According to figures almost fifty percent of the people use the service to visit the Centaurus shopping mall in Islamabad.
Although the service has lessened the woes of the people to a great extent but there are still a few problems in the metro bus service, ticketing machines on various stations have malfunctioned. Work is still on going on some stations and elevators for disabled passengers are yet to be installed at some places. The staff of the service is still under training and is a little too cautious; passengers have complained that at times they were stopped from even drinking water on the stations as the staff claimed that it is not allowed.
