ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police arrested 514 accused during the last month for their alleged involvement in various crime cases besides recovery of cache of weapons, narcotics and looted items worth over Rs. 25 million from them.
Following the directions from Minister for Interior Ch. Nisar Ali Khan to enhance policing measures in the city for ensuring protection to the lives and property of the citizens, Islamabad police made special efforts to curb activities of anti-social elements and achieved significant success.
IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan assigned special task to officials of Islamabad Police and massive crackdown against absconders, criminal elements and search operation against suspects was launched.
During all these efforts for effective policing, Islamabad police achieved remarkable success during the last month and arrested 514 persons for their alleged involvement in various criminal cases.
A total of 66 cases were registered in various police stations against those possessing illegal weapons. Police recovered 71 pistols, 12 rifles/ Kalashnikovs and 504 rounds from them. Likewise, 62 cases about drug peddling and bootlegging activities were registered against 64 persons and police recovered 2298 wine bottles, 17.895 kilogram hashish and 1068 gram heroin from them.
Twenty four (24) car thieves and snatchers were nabbed and 22 vehicles and two motorbikes were recovered from them. A total of 103 persons were held for their alleged involvement in robberies as well as theft incidents while gold ornaments, cell phones, lap tops, cash and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were recovered from them.
During this period, three blind murders were traced and ten persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in murder cases. Police nabbed 62 court absconders and 30 proclaimed offenders in crackdown against those criminals being at large.
During this period, 1471 professional beggars were arrested while 17 gangs were also busted besides arrest of 53 gangsters.
IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan has said it is the prime responsibility of police to provide relief to citizens, adding that every possible effort would be made to provide protection to the lives and property of citizens as well as resolving their complaints on immediate basis.
He also appreciated this overall performance and further directed all police officials to continue such endeavors to nab criminal elements.
