GUJRANWALA: At least five militants were killed during a search operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Gujranwala on Saturday.
On a tip off, the CTD officials conducted an operation in the area of Wapda Town.
According to CTD spokesman, the eight militants affiliated with the outlawed terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda were planning major militancy activities in Gujranwala.
On a tip-off, the police raided the hideout of the militants who opened fire on police officials in retaliation.
However the police responded to the fire in a befitting manner.
After a prolonged gun battle, the police officials inspected the area and recovered five dead bodies of the militants who died on the spot after being shot by their cohorts.
Three militants managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness, the police said.
The police officials recovered one kalashnikov, two pistols, a 44 bore gun, two hand grenades and other explosives from the dead bodies.
The spokesman also stated that further investigation is underway while the police teams are searching for the missing terrorists.
