4092 MMCFD raw gas being produced in country: Senate

ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Friday that 4092 Million Cubic Feet per Day (MMCFD) raw gas is being produced in the country.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan told the House during Question Hour that percentage of gas consumed by different sectors during the year 2013-14 is 22 percent domestic, three percent commercial, 12 percent industrial, 27 percent power, seven percent CNG, 18 percent fertilizer and ten percent captive power.

He said gas is supplied to different categories of consumers in line with the priority order that is domestic and commercial sectors, power sector, general industries, cement sector and CNG sector.

Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali told the House that the original cost of Neelum-Jhelum Hydro Power Project was 80 billion rupees but raised to 280 billion rupees because the delay in the project.

He said the cost may cross three hundred billion rupees at the financial close. He said it is the priority of the government to complete the projects on time.

Abid Sher Ali informed the House that it was brought to the notice to Ministry of Water and Power in December 2010 that Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, Ex-Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Waters allegedly committed some acts of omission and commission amounting to gross negligence, inefficiency and malafide on his part in connection with Nimoo Bazgo Hydro Power Plant by India on the upper reaches of the Indus River.

However, he said inquiry committee constituted on 31st January, 2012 in its report found that Syed Jamaat Ali Shah performed his duties in an appropriate manner and as such no loss to national interest was attributed to him. The chair referred the question to the committee concerned for further discussion.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad informed the House that 181,743,000 ballot papers were got printed for the use in the conduct of general elections 2013 both for national and provincial assemblies.

He said 109,158,600 ballot papers were printed from M/s Printing Corporation of Pakistan (pvt) Limited at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi Presses and 72,584,400 from Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (Pv) Limited Karachi.

The State Minister said no contract for printing of ballot papers were awarded to any private printing press.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal told the House that 75 percent work on Supply Main of the project for supply of natural gas Dara Adam Khel, FR Kohat has been completed and hoped that the whole project will be completed by November this year.

Zahid Khan rising on a point of order demanded that original route of Pak-China Economic Corridor should not be changed.  ANP also staged a walkout from the House to protest against the alleged change in the route of Corridor.
