Jhang: As many as 22 Basic Health Units are running without Medical Officers in District Jhang. According to the data shared by Health Department against an information request filed by social activist Faisal Manzoor, Medical Officer of BHU Bhero Tehsil Jhang is not available since Aug, 2012 whereas BHUs at Pir Abdul Rehmanand Chattaare are facing the same situation from the last two years.
Statistics showed that out of 58 BHUs of District Jhang only 16 have permanent Medical Officer, 20 were facilitated with adhoc/temporary MOs and remaining 22 BHUs are still running without any doctors.
In Basic Health Units Ratta Matta, Slyana, Mandi Shah Jewana, Malhuana, Kari Wala, Kot Mirza, Rashid Pur, Sultan Bahu, Essay Wala, Sultan Pur, Essay Wala, Sharif Abad, Dab Kalan andChak 4/2-L, posts of MOs are vacant from last one year. BHUs Chak No. 231, Shiekh Chuhar, Khanuana, Jabuanaand Uch Gul Imam are facing the same situation since Jan2016.
Despite government claims about health sector reforms the situation in BHUs is a question mark on government performance. Citizens of rural areas have to travel hundreds kilometers to reach THQs or DHQs for treatment due to vacant posts of MOs at their nearest BHUs. Public has demanded the Punjab government to take necessary measures to fill these vacant posts of MOs and provide basic health facilities to the villagers at their door step.
