3,400 terrorists including 183 hardcore terrorists have been killed so far in the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Director General (DG) of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Saturday.
The DG ISPR said that phenomenal success has been achieved during the operation and the last remaining pockets of militants are being cleared near the Pak-Afghan border. The DG ISPR said a total of 837 terrorist’s hideouts were destroyed and in total 13,200 Intelligence Based Operations were carried out across the country, 21,193 terrorists were also arrested. He however added that the success came at a heavy price as 488 officers and men of Pakistan Army, FC Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and Sindh Rangers sacrificed their lives while 1,914 were injured during the operation.
Highlighting the performance of the military courts Bajwa said that a total of 142 cases were referred to 11 military courts established in line with the National Action Plan (NAP). 87 of these cases were still in process while 55 have been decided by the military courts, in which he added 31 hardcore terrorists were convicted.
He lauded the support of the entire nation for its valiant armed forces and resolve expressed against terrorism after the Army Public School (APS) attack on December 16 last year and said that it has been the bed rock of the Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He further added that the overall improvement in security and law and order situation was owed to the operation.
