ISLAMABAD: At least 27 people were killed and dozens other injured in several different road accidents across the country since Sunday night, according to local reports Monday.
At least 19 people were killed in the country’s eastern Punjab Province, another six were killed in southern Sindh Province and two in northwest Kyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
Private television channels have reported that six people including a minor girl were killed when a over-speeding passenger van ran into passers-by due to tire burst in Jhang city.
In a separate accident, six people were killed when a passenger van ran into two motorcycles after losing control over the vehicle due to over-speeding in Gojra.
Two passenger vans caught fire after colliding with each other in Uch Sharif district, killing two people on the spot and injuring 26 others. According to hospital sources, 16 among the hospitalized people are in critical conditions.
Separately, a rashly driven car fell into a canal, killing two people on board where rescue workers have rescued three others from the canal and shifted them to a nearby hospital in Sheikhupura district.
Four people, including two women and a child, died as a speeding van crashed into a tree and fell in a ditch near Tando Bagh, Badin, on Monday.
According to the police, the van was carrying passengers returning from a wedding ceremony. The van fell in the ditch due to speeding. As a result, four people were killed while seven others were injured. Five of them were shifted to Civil Hospital, Hyderabad. Doctors said their condition was critical.
A husband and his wife got killed after a speeding bus hit their motorcycle in Karachi.
Meanwhile, four other people lost their lives in two separate accidents in Attock and Vehari and one in KPK’s Kohat. NNI
