Qadir Mandokhail Defends PPP’s Stance on Democracy and Questions Overnight Passage of 26th Amendment”
PTI’s Founder Cleared in Cases but Criticized by Opponents: Uzma Kardar and Ali Bukhari Respond
Islamabad: Exclusive conversation at Sachi Baat with SK Niazi, political leaders from different parties shared their perspectives on the controversial 26th Amendment, ongoing issues within the PTI, and the role of democracy in Pakistan. Abid Zuberi, a prominent legal voice, challenged the 26th Amendment, calling it a “secretive” and “constitutionally invalid” act. He argued that it was brought into Parliament under questionable circumstances, questioning why it was passed overnight without public debate. He emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional principles, adding that he would not support decisions made outside the law.
Meanwhile, PPP leader Qadir Mandokhail strongly defended his party’s commitment to democracy. He highlighted the PPP’s role in drafting Pakistan’s constitution, contrasting it with the PTI’s approach. Mandokhail condemned the swift passage of the 26th Amendment and expressed concerns over its potential impact on Pakistan’s political stability. He further pointed out that the PPP and Maulana Fazlur Rehman had led efforts to maintain democracy, dismissing the idea of any coalition with PTI, which he said had a history of abuse rather than constructive political engagement.
Ali Bukhari of PTI, along with PML-N’s Uzma Kardar, weighed in on the challenges facing the PTI. Bukhari defended the party’s founder, asserting that he had been acquitted in numerous cases, and accused opponents of creating false narratives to undermine PTI. Uzma Kardar, however, argued that the PTI founder’s actions were the reason for his legal troubles and family issues, alleging that PTI was misleading the public. Both emphasized that all leaders should respect the judicial process, with Bukhari highlighting perceived injustices faced by PTI and Kardar pointing to Maryam Nawaz’s own struggles in jail as an example of accountability.
The episode highlighted the ongoing political tensions and diverging visions for Pakistan’s future, with each leader stressing their party’s commitment to the constitution, democracy, and law.
