KOHISTAN: As many as twenty five have been reportedly dead in Kohistan landslide while the main Karakoram Highway continued to close on seventh day.

The torrential rains have led to storm and land sliding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, blocking land links of several areas.

The local authorities have also expressed possible risk of food dearth in rain and storm-hit locations whereas many trees fell down due to landslide in Shangla’s Koch Karshat.

Separately, landslide in Kandia in Kohistan left as many as 25 people including thirteen women dead while natives are also moving to safe havens.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has sent a special rescue team to extend help in the recovery of the dead bodies.

Meanwhile, more than 100 houses in Muzaffarabad were demolished in a mountain slide. The district government has launched operation to rescue the victims.

On the other hand, Frontier Works Organisation stated that northern areas in Pakistan have experienced worst landslides and rainstorms since 1979 while rescue operations have been conducted to restore roads and rescue the residents.

However, FWO workers have restored the Karakoram route from 23 different locations. The spokesperson also said that a part of road has been swept away completely near Dasu. FWO workers have set up temporary bridges for movement in the affected areas. NNI
