‘2.5 lac trees saplings to be planted under Green KP programme’

TIMERGARA(INP): The sub divisional forest officer (SDO) Adenzai Wasil Khan on Wednesday said that more than 250,000 saplings would be distributed in farmers for plantation next year under the Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa programme.

 

Talking to media persons during a visit to the newly established government nursery at Chakdara, Adenzai Wasi said that next year 190,000 pine, 14,000 poplars, 38,000 eucalyptus, 1,000 diar, 22,000 Acacia, 1,000 ‘Chinar’ and 3,000 ‘Wala’ saplings have been planted in the nursery which would be distributed among farmers for plantation.

 

He said that some of the traditional and local plants had also been introduced as they had been endangered for years. The official said that the government was committed to make the Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa programme a success.

 

Talking about environmental changes, the SDO said that deforestation was creating many problems for human beings. He said forest was being ruthlessly cut by man but no measures were being taken by them to plant new trees.
