ISLAMABAD (NNI): Former President Asif Ali Zardari has rejected the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan issued Thursday in Panama Leaks case.
However, the former President has said that the prime minister should tender resignation on moral grounds after the court decision.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad Asif Ali Zardari said that the entire world has come to know that Nawaz Sharif is not ‘Sharif’. Would a BS-19 government official would be able to take a decision that five judges of the apex court could not take? Zardari questioned.
Co-Chairman of PPP paid salute to two judges of the larger bench of SC, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Gulzar Ahmed who called for disqualification of the Prime Minister in the verdict.
The former president hailed the judgment of the two judges as the verdict of the top court in Panama Leaks case. The former president said that the party would give its detailed response to the decision after going through the complete version of the verdict. Zardari said that majority of the junior judges ‘joked’ with the nation. However, senior judges gave excellent judgment, he added.
“I had suggested Imran not to go to court. He is inexperience. His (Imran’s) decision has caused a loss to democracy and justice,” Zardari said.
Zardari said that those who are distributing sweets and making merry should be ashamed. The people were deceived for nine months, he said.
The PPP co-chairman said that the premier is liable to tender his resignation on moral grounds however, he knows Nawaz Sharif and he would never take such step until last breath.
He also declared Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf a naive politician who made mistakes in the political run against the government over Panama Leaks since April last year.
Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Aitzaz Ahsan Chaudhry said that the top court’s verdict is a softer one compared to 1993 precedent. However, the verdict of two judges is the actual order of the top court, Aitzaz reiterated.
He said that the rest of the three judges disappointed the nation. The opposition leader questioned the progress made in Model Town incident whereas verdict in Asghar Khan case was not implemented upon. Senator Aitzaz Ahsan further branded establishment of a Joint Investigation Team a way to give an escape to the Prime Minister.
