RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday congratulated Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), UK media XI and the brave people of North Waziristan on successfully arranging Peace Cup at Younis Khan ground in Miranshah.
“Peace has won in North Waziristan,” General Bajwa said, according to ISPR.
According to experts, successful arrangement of this cricket match is the fruit of determined effort by the people of Pakistan against terrorism. In the war against terror, Pakistan had to sacrifice 70,000 lives and bear the loss of Rs. 140 billion. Experts agree that security challenges are increasing around the globe, however, terrorism has decreased by 90% in Pakistan.
Earlier, Pakistan XI beat UK Media XI by 133 runs in T-20 match played at Younis Khan Stadium, Miranshah. This match was played as part of a Peace Cup organized with the help of PCB and Pakistan Army. The 18-member UK Media team comprises of journalists, lawyers, businessmen and academics, which is touring Pakistan with the aim to improve the country s image as a sporting nation.
“We are a peace loving nation. World saw today how a resilient nation overcomes difficult times” added the army chief. NNI
