Recent remarks of president Trump have initiated a new debate in the country. The American stance and post scenario of the country! Almost all the politicians are of the view that Pakistan doesn’t need any kind of American assistance especially when it comes to the financial aid. It has been promulgated that America has not only undermined its own soldiers in the country rather it has also put major threats to the poor and unarmed Afghan natives by such flaunt policies. West believes that whatever policies they make Pakistan and other South Asian countries will have to submit to their flaws just because the less developed nations cannot do without the dominant forces. It’s a common mindset that Pakistan cannot make it without the US aid. A decade ago the same allegations were raised. In fact US keeps on bragging about this aid time and again. The survival of our country has been tied to the American aid. Initially, as per the databases, US was providing more economic aid to Pakistan as that of military. But the American occupation in Afghanistan has changed the scenario. Since 1982, the United States has provided $17 billion in military assistance compared to $13.5 billion in economic assistance. This has largely been a result of covert and overt American military operations in Afghanistan that began in late 70s. In fact after 9/11, the military assistance provided to Pakistan was quite more than the economic one. That aid had nothing to do with the country’s internal unrest or the socioeconomic dimensions. Pakistan, by agreeing to provide assistance to America in its war on terror sided the US policies. It received the attention of enraged militants and thus witnessed a row of casualties that it still is counting. This financial aid was not the favor of America rather it was vice versa. The question of Pakistan’s survival on American aid becomes stagnant after reviewing the disparities between the military and economic aid. In 2010, the US economic assistance to Pakistan equalled $1.8 billion. The charity coming from United States was in no way the sole source in fact wasn’t even the major contributor. Today, the nation has been infuriated on Donald Trump’s remarks and holds that Pakistan must say No to the American aid.
