ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has banned on Monday the advertisement carrying the pictures of political leaders after taking the sou moto notice of chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif Pictures on Punjab government’s health cards and lap tops.
The decision was made by a three-member SC bench headed by chief justice Mian Saqib during the hearing of the sou moto notice.
During the hearing secretary information KP appeared before the court. Chief Justice asked him how many advertisement were given by KP government on print and electronic media and wither they carried the pictures of Imran Khan and Pervez Khattak?“KP government has aired and print advertisement on Electronic media, News papers, Radio and social media as social media was not paid any amount while KP government has not policy to put pictures of leaders in advertisements,” secretary KP told apex court.
On which CJ said, “Sc is not banning advertisement but only the section of advertisement that carried pictures.”
On the query of chief justice over the expense made by the KP government for advertisements, secretary KP told the court that in KP government has given advertisement of Rs 204.7 million and overall during the PTI tenure the Rs one billion and 630 million have been spent so far.“As per the KP government police most of the advertisement are not made for personal advertisement and they usually comprise of information over the public facilitation and projects,” he said.
On which Chief Justice asked him to submit affidavit there was no advertisement with political leaders pictures in KP and warned if affidavit proved false strict action would be taken. INP
