ISLAMABAD: The European Union’s Human Rights Commission will present Editor in Chief Pakistan Group of Newspapers and Chairman Roze News Sardar Khan Niazi with the ‘2017 best journalist award’ for his services for the cause of human rights in Pakistan.
Journalist, renowned columnist and anchorperson Sardar Khan Niazi will be presented the award in a special ceremony to be held later. According to the details the award is in recognition of Sardar Khan Khan Niazi’s services for the cause of human rights – particularly in the missing person’s case.
The missing person’s case came to the limelight after the issue was highlighted by Sardar Khan Niazi through stories in his newspapers under the umbrella of Pakistan Group of Newspapers. After the continuous coverage of missing people in Daily Pakistan and Daily The Patriot, the Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo motu notice of the issue. Sardar Khan Niazi faced tremendous pressure for the coverage of missing people from various quarters but he remained steadfast.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sardar Khan Niazi apart from being the recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz has won a host of awards for his services to the field of journalism. His other awards include an award by the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan for reporting on nuclear affairs. He was also presented an award by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for his fearless reporting to highlight corruption scandals and award by the former Army Chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif (during his tenure as the Army Chief).
Last year he was awarded the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) International Achievement Award 2016 in the media category, the award was presented by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan who was the head of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Social Development. Sardar Khan Niazi has also the honor of receiving an award from Imam-e-Kaaba, Sheikh Abdur Rehman Al-Sudais for his efforts to promote the teachings of Islam and telecasting the Adhan five times a day on Roze News.
