PESHAWAR: Ameer Jamaat e Islami Sirajul Haq has said that the era of the plunderers hiding one another’s loot was over and the current movement would culminate only in the ruthless accountability of all those who had looted public money.
Addressing a press conference at Al-Markaz Peshawar on Thursday, he said that accountability was the slogan on the tongue of everybody and the process would not be confined to the Panama leaks.
The JI chief said that the inclusion of the Prime Minister’s name in the Panama leaks was a matter of shame for the country. He said the Prime Minister and the ruling party were not prepared for accountability otherwise they would offer themselves for that.
He said that the Leader of the Opposition was today forwarding a joint and unanimous ToRs on behalf of the entire opposition and the matter would be in the government’s court, If the government accepted these ToR’s it would be presumed that the rulers wanted to end the present crisis. But if these ToRs were rejected, it would be clear that the government wanted to prolong the crisis.
Sirajul Haq said the JI would soon move a bill for accountability in order to check corruption and it would seek the cooperation of all political parties on the issue. He said that besides financial corruption, there was need to uproot moral and electoral corruption from the country.
He said that he had convened a meeting of senior party leaders in Islamabad on May nine to further intensity the movement against corruption.
The JI chief said that the JI had already raised the issue of corruption in the Senate and the National Assembly and impressed upon all parliamentary parties that it was their moral duty to weed out the corrupt elements from their ranks. NNI
