Privilege, privilege, privilege

Pakistan is passing through the most critical phase. India is literally threatening us, Afghan president is so discourteous that he even refused to attend the phone call made by the Prime Minister of Pakistan; US president is also accusing Pakistan on one pretext or the other. Economic situation is not satisfactory. Law and order, too, is not up to the level of satisfaction.  Do you know, in this critical situation, what our representatives are occupied with? Do you know what they are doing to steer us out of wood? Here are some glimpses from this wonderful and unprecedented struggle of our democratic leaders.

This is notification issued by the Senate secretariat on 24th of January, 2018. On September 2017, the Chairman Senate visited Karachi. He was Acting President at that time. He was not provided with protocol. 6 months have been passed but honorable Senators are still stick on that. The agenda before the committee as per the said notification is as under:

“Breach of the privilege of Chairman Senate when he was acting as President and visited Karachi on 17 September , 2017, by the Chief secretary Sindh , IG police Sindh, Commissioner Karachi, and Deputy Commissioner Malir by not receiving the acting President at Karachi airport and non provision of protocol to him according to blue book”.

I am a commoner and I wonder should the honorable members of Senate press this issue anymore that why did IG Sindh and some other officials fail to receive the Chairman Senate at the airport or they should just warn the officials and go forward to deal many more important issues?

If you go through the proceedings of privilege committee of National Assembly you will find many more such things that will churn your stomach. I can reproduce those nuggets for you but not today. So “stay tuned”.
