PMLN leaders lash out at opposition over objections on JIT in Panama case

April 21, 2017

ISLAMABAD (INP): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders spelled out outrageous comments over the opposition after the National Assembly’s session was prorogued by the deputy speaker and the Senate was also adjourned by the Chairman on Friday due to the opposition lawmakers protest against the Panama verdict.

Speaking to media outside the parliament, Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq said there is no logic in opposition demand for resignation of the prime minister on moral grounds. He said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has never learnt to respect the judiciary. He expressed confidence that their opponents will continue to face humiliation in future as PML-N will emerge victorious at every forum.

Raja Zafarul Haq regretted PPP’s attitude during the proceedings of the Upper House and said that although PPP has rejected the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) his party will follow the instructions of the apex court and every decision will be taken in accordance with the law. He argued that the opposition has no justification to demand the prime minister’s resignation.

He said the opposition’s protest is result of the frustration due to its defeat in the 2013 general elections. He said the Prime Minister has been vindicated and in future proceedings the opposition will also be defeated.

Raja Zafarul Haq defended the formation of JIT and said it is to  investigate and submit report to the SC about the right and wrong.  He said it is not necessary that the Prime Minister should present himself before the JIT as the case can be presented by his lawyers.

Answering a question, Raja Zafarul Haq said constitutionally and legally, the majority verdict is considered the SC decision. He pointed out that the JIT has been formed by the Supreme Court.

The leader of the house in the Senate said if the opposition launches a joint movement, the nation would not support it and back the Prime Minister as they did in the 2013 elections.

Minister of State for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali while commenting on the objections raised by the opposition on Joint Investigation team (JIT) members, asked whether Ayyan Ali and Dr Asim should be made a part of JIT. Abid Sher Ali declared that Thursday’s decision of the Supreme Court reflects the aspirations of the people of the country.

Daniyal Aziz also lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan demanding him to issue a public denial regarding hiding his assets and tax evasion.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry went on to say that the Supreme Court’s orders have reprieved not only the prime minister but his well-wishers too.
