LAHORE: Chaudhry Muhammed Sarwar has resigned as Punjab governor.
According to sources, Sarwar has sent his resignation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for approval. He is likely to hold a press conference at 2 PM today in which he would disclose the reasons that led him to step down as governor. But sources said that the PM Sharif was unhappy with the performance of Sarwar as Punjab governor.
Moreover, state-run television also claimed that President Mamnoon Hussain had directed Punjab governor to submit his resignation last night.
Sources said that the PM Sharif was also not happy over some of his public statements. It is noteworthy that only recently Sarwar had said that US president opting not to visit Pakistan was the failure of Islamabad’s foreign policy. Chaudhry Sarwar is a former Member of the British Parliament who had been elected from Glasgow on a labor party ticket. Sarwar gave up his British citizenship in order to become the Governor of Pakistan’s largest province.
