Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday while addressing a press conference has spoken of behind the scene conspiracies being hatched to rig the 2018 elections in order to bring in power a favourable political party. Sharif gave a warning that if behind the scene activities, secret telephones and contacts to rig the elections are not stopped, he would disclose everything that had happened in the last four years and how the elections would be maneuvered in the future. He pointed out that the country suffered in the past by rejecting the mandate of the people.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and Pakistan Peoples Party while responding to the statement of Nawaz Sharif rightly suggested him that he should reveal the ‘conspiracies’ in the country and explain his claims of behind-the-door powers. PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said that former prime minister has been spreading the narrative of conspiracy against him since the Supreme Court verdict to oust him as the premier.
As per statement of Nawaz Sharif if he has the evidences of engineered activities to derail the elected prime minister, it is the best time to reveal the facts. His supporters deserve to know if there was something else other than Supreme Court’s verdict which forced him to leave office of prime minister. It is a very serious allegation if he was pointing towards establishment. This is the elections year, and if he truly feels that 2018 elections are under threat than what is he waiting for to let the nation know about those threats. It is the best time to reveal the secrets if there are any. Another question arises that if these interferences had been occurring for the last few years of his regime, why did he not point it out earlier?
Questions are also being raised on the timing of this statement as he recently returned from a high-profile visit to Saudi Arabia, which many believe that was not an ordinary visit. PTI Chief Imran Khan claims that Sharif family is in search of another National Reconciliation Order (NRO), but his party won’t let happen any dubious deal. Sahrif family has brushed aside speculations regarding the visit, but Nawaz Sharif’s statement regarding 2018 elections is a serious allegation and he should reveal the conspirators if there are any.
