Development projects in Balochistan

March 7, 2018

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the provision of civic facilities and peaceful environment in less developed areas of Balochistan is a dream coming true. According to a press release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday, the COAS was speaking at the closing ceremony of the three-day Makran Festival 2018 at Kech Stadium,Turbat on late Sunday.
A large number of local residents attended the ceremony. The COAS, who was on a two-day visit to Balochistan stayed night at Turbat. The Army Chief said that the people of Balochistan had the rights for provision of similar facilities as in rest of Pakistan. He said prosperous Balochistan programme was aimed at fulfillment of this right.
President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the federal government has launched several development projects at a cost of billion rupees in Balochistan for welfare of people in the province. Addressing local bodies’ convention in Sibi on Sunday, he said local bodies’ governments are endeavoring to resolve problems of people at their door steps. He called upon the patriotic people of Balochistan to remain vigilant to face the future challenges and take benefits from the development process launched in the province.
Visit of COAS and President is indeed praiseworthy, but federal and provincial governments should further work in lifting socio-economic condition of the largest province of the country. Local people of Balochistan would take benefit from China backed projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) but government should also initiate other development projects. Local people must be trained with technical education so they could accumulate maximum benefit from the development projects in the province. As CPEC is being termed game changer for the region, it should also be ensured that Baloch people get maximum benefits from CPEC.
There is dire need to eliminate sense of denial of the rights of local people, and only way to do that is to take maximum local people on board in the development projects. With the sacrifices of armed forces security situation has improved manifold in the region, now civilian government needs to step up in improving basic health facilities for the people. Civilian government still has a mounting task ahead to improve dismal condition of health and education facilities in the province. It is pleasant development that military and civilian leaderships are looking forward to uplift socio-economic situation of the province.
