Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and all across the world observed Black Day on Friday to reiterate their pledge to continue the liberation struggle against India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
India had landed its troops in Srinagar on October 27 1947 and illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in total violation of the Partition Plan of the Subcontinent and against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. 70 years have passed but people of Kashmir are still struggling for their rights, but with every passing day their resolve is further strengthening. By observing Black Day every year Kashmiris convey the message to rest of the world that they will never accept forced occupation of their motherland by India. The continued resistance by the Kashmiris is a clear message to India that no matter how many atrocities they commit the Kashmiris will never bow down and will fight for their right of self determination. Despite the brutal treatment dished out by the Indian authorities the spirits of Kashmiris are higher than ever.
Despite imposing stringent restrictions by occupied forces to prevent people from holding demonstration on the occasion of Black Day, a complete shutdown was observed to protest against India. All government offices, business establishments including banks were closed, while roads wore a deserted look in the valley.
It is unfortunate that international community could not play any substantial role in resolving Kashmir issue as India continues to deny Kashmiris from their inalienable right to self-determination. The denial of the right to self-determination is not only the negation of the UN Charter and key human rights covenants but also of human dignity. Making mockery of UN’ resolutions should be a matter of concern for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) but it never took the issue seriously.
Kashmir issue must be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions keeping in view the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. There is dire need to remind to the world community about the promises made with the Kashmiris for resolving the issue under the UNSC resolutions.
